What is BB Glow facial?

BB Glow is an intensive semi-permanent foundation treatment where active ingredients are injected into the facial skin to provide a flawless, natural look and minimize pores.
How is BB Glow performed?
BB Glow is performed with BB Glow pigment, a micro-needling machine, and an LED lamp. Pigment serum is painlessly and effectively injected into the upper layers of the epidermis without penetrating into the deep layers of the epidermis. Vessels are absent in the epidermis – which means that the color will fade slowly. This skin layer renews every 30-60 days (depending on the age).

BB Glow Indications & Contraindications
The BB Glow procedure has some indications as well as restrictions. Let’s find out what they are.
Indications
1. Dull, unhealthy, and uneven skin tone.
Today, most people don’t pay enough attention to their skin because we are always in a hurry, and we are always late. We forget to take vitamins which are necessary for our health. As a result, our skin needs some support. BB Glow protects our skin and fills it with active components (like collagen) and extra vitamins for its brightness.
2. Freckles.
Someone loves them, someone doesn’t. Someone tries to camouflage them as much as possible. They become brighter in summer and lighten during the rest part of the year. BB Glow can cover and lighten up freckles, but can’t take them away completely.
3. Hyper-pigmentation, pigmentation and age spots.
Any kind of pigmentation means melanin. BB Glow lightens it up.
4. Post-acne.
Post-acne spots are a problem of almost any adult since we all have (or used to have) acne in our teen-age. Today, permanent makeup artists have the possibility to even the skin by means of the BB Glow procedure.
5. Age wrinkles.
BB Glow is perfect to be performed on the skin both with age & mimic wrinkles. The micro-needling machine has a vibration effect, so it helps an artist to even the skin tone.

Contraindications
1. Acne.
Acne means inflammation, so permanent makeup artists cannot work on the inflamed areas.
2. Acute purulent inflammatory processes.
Again, artists cannot work on inflamed areas. BB Glow is no exception.
3. Skin diseases in the affected area.
Here, we are talking about eczema, psoriasis, warts, papillomas, etc. There is no chance for BB Glow to settle in the affected area. Bacteria are a contraindication here.
4. Fever.
If our body struggles with bacteria, viruses, and so on, it rejects any external ‘guests’ and tries to supplant them. BB Glow is something that comes from the outside and gets under the skin layers. So, please stay home in this case, and don’t hesitate to reschedule your appointment.
5. Allergy to components.
There is a full list of ingredients on the back side of every serum box. Any artist should ask their clients if they have an allergy and see if such ingredient is contained in the pigment.
6. Diabetes.
Diabetics have blood clotting problems which is a contraindication. The healing process takes a much longer time.
7. Intake of medicine that affects blood clotting.

Before

Consultation is vital. Booking a consultation with a certified and licensed permanent makeup artist should never be underestimated.

It is recommended to stop taking blood-thinning medications (visit your therapist for a consultation).

Avoid using Retinol before the procedure.

Do not wear makeup or skin care products on the day of the treatment.
After

Apply SPF cream (no less than SPF 30). Otherwise, melanin will get back.

Don’t wash your face within 24 hours. No bath, no steam at all to save the pigment.

Use only the cream provided by the permanent makeup artist.

Avoid tanning for 1 week. Later, it is recommended to cover the face with a big fancy hat.

Stay away from spicy food and seafood for at least 3 days.

Don’t do any laser procedures on the face for 2 months.

BB Glow is a complex treatment that is supposed to improve the texture, quality and tone of the face. It’s a fusion between the microneedling/nanoneedling facial and semi-permanent makeup, so it targets a number of skin issues, and gives an anti-aging effect.
It’s supposed to give the effect of wearing lightweight foundation, or BB cream.
Anyone who’s dealing with dark under-eye area, freckles or any of the skin issues (hyper-pigmentation, pigmentation, age spots, post-acne, age wrinkles, enlarged pores, oily skin) and who wants to improve their overall skin condition. Since the treatment does involve breaking the skin surface and pigmentation, there are certain contraindications.
Due to the nature of the application and the pigmented serums used, the BB Glow facial isn’t suitable for clients who are:
- pregnant or nursing;
- undergoing cancer treatment;
- suffering from skin conditions like Psoriasis, Rosacea, active acne, etc.;
- suffering from any infection;
- prone to keloid scarring;
- prone to allergies to cosmetic products;
- taking blood-thinning medications;
- taking Accutane.

Artists at Anna Kara’s Beauty Studio (San Diego) usually do from 2 to 4 procedures based on the client’s goal and wish. For younger clients, 2 procedures will be enough. If there is any pigmentation or freckles, we usually perform 4 – 5 procedures.
Every procedure is done between 2 and 4 weeks. Some redness might occur because the capillaries are close to the skin surface, but the face will already look brighter.
The procedure time is one hour.
The results will last for 6 months after a session. We recommend a minimum of 3 – 5 sessions every 2 weeks.
